Things to Know about the Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris
Jaeger LeCoultre is known as one of the most sophisticated innovators of luxury watches that exhibit incredible craftsmanship and imagination. Indeed, JLC is one of the watch brands, treated with the highest level of dignity and respect.
This elite watchmaker is globally recognised for its iconic Reverso collection. However, its list of vast modern collections also includes the JLC Polaris, a revival of the Polaris Memovox of 1968. Let’s today explore the popular Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris.

The 1968 JLC Polaris Memovox
Jaeger LeCoultre unveiled the Polaris Memovox watch in 1968, available in only 1714 pieces. Interestingly, it remains one of the rarest and most collectable Jaeger LeCoultre watches to date.
- The watch flaunted an exquisite combination of a classic case structure and mechanical complexity.
- However, the watchmaker introduced the first Polaris Memovox as an “alarm watch”.
- It featured an automatic alarm system and deep-diving components.
Moreover, the watch sported a double case-back. While one offered resistance to water, the other case-back had sixteen holes so that users could hear the sound of the hammers easily.
The Current Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris
While refurbishing new editions of signature timepieces, most watchmakers tend to preserve the most recognisable and design detail. This offers the watch community a glimpse of the past.
However, the changes include the use of the modern element, elegant shape, a refreshed design and new Calibres with mechanical complications.
So the new Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris comes with a gold case, new movement and new dials with virtually the same design of the indexes and Arabic numerals’ font.
The Dial
Jaeger LeCoultre designed the new Polaris watches based on the Polaris Memovox of 1968.
- The dial sports a similar design to the original but has evolved in some aspects.
- JLC offers the new Polaris dial three varied finishes altogether – grain-finished polish, a sunray decoration in the middle and an opaque external crown featuring applied minute indexes.
However, the movement operates various functions on the dial. And the Polaris with a blue dial perhaps offers the most attractive look and best feel.
Different Mechanical Complications
➤ JLC Polaris Automatic
The Polaris Automatic runs on the Calibre 898E/1 that offers power reserve up to 40hours. It comes with bluish screws, a winding rotor with the JL logo and Cotes de Geneve embellishment.
- However, the watch features a 41mm case diameter and thickness of 11.2mm.
- The JLC Polaris Automatic is water-resistant up to 10bars.
- Moreover, it sports two crowns – one at the 4 o’clock side for setting the time and another, at 2 o’clock to operate the inner ring.
Jaeger LeCoultre offers this entry-level collection in two dials (black or blue) and three bracelet options.
➤ JLC Polaris Date
The Polaris Date runs on the Calibre 899A/1 movement, offering power reserve up to 39hours. However, the timepiece measures 42mm in diameter and 13.1mm in thickness.
- It can reach up to a depth of 200m in the water.
- Jaeger LeCoultre renders this model only with one dial colour option, and that is, black.
However, the stainless steel Polaris Date comes on a unique rubber strap featuring “Clous de Paris” motif.
➤ JLC Polaris Chronograph
This bicompax chronograph features a 30-minute counter at the 3 o’clock side and a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock side. The Calibre 751H movement powers the Polaris Chronograph.
The movement has a skeletonised rotor and power reserve ability up to 65hours. Moreover, the watch features a 42mm case and is water-resistant up to 100m.
