The Legendary Omega Calibre 321 is Back in Production

The Omega Calibre 321 is regarded as the most famous vintage chronograph movement among the watch lovers. Indeed, it was the first movement that landed on the moon, and the brand’s Instagram post confirming its return caused a massive uproar in the luxury watch market. Since 1968, the Calibre 321 movement is today in production for the first time. Luxury watch brands are instantly recognisable and admired also because of the calibres powering their watches. This is one of the significant features that help the watches to retain their value with time. Thus, luxury watch owners can choose to ‘sell watches’ or ‘sell my watch’ to trustworthy watch buyers in London or anywhere in the UK and raise instant cash without any hassle. Regardless, continue reading below to know everything about the famous Omega Calibre 321.

Calibre 321 – One of the Legends in the Luxury Watch Industry

The first 1957 Omega Speedmaster ‘Moonwatch’ featured the Calibre 321 that also met the demanding needs of NASA astronauts for a 1962 space expedition. The movement was developed in collaboration between Lemania and Omega as early as 1942. However, the Calibre 321 is yet today recognised as one of the best column-wheel watch calibres. Interestingly, this legendary movement has been utilised by luxury watchmakers such as Patek Philippe, Breguet and Vacheron Constantin as the basis of their chronograph movements.

The New Edition of the Calibre 321

Omega has announced already that the legendary Calibre 321 would be inspected by tomography for making an accurate reconstruction. The Calibre 321 used in the Omega Speedmaster Reference 105.003 is analysed. The watch is owned by Eugene Cernan who was an astronaut of the Gemini 9, Apollo 10 and 17 crews.

The brand is committed to the movement’s authenticity. Moreover, while the new edition of the movement will be of a similar reconstruction, the calibre will not acquire METAS certification. However, the historic Calibre 321 movement had copper-coloured components. But the new edition Calibre movement will be offered a PVD coating in Sedna gold for preventing fading with age.

Omega will produce the movement in Bienne entirely in-house. Moreover, a single watch manufacturer will assemble every calibre with the respective timepiece. As per earlier assumptions, the brand may not make the Calibre 321 in a limited edition. However, it will be produced in lesser quantities because of the higher production efforts. Moreover, the Calibre 321 is predicted to be equipped in a unique gold chronograph.
